Grist Hydrators
Using a grist hydrator is a great way to minimize doughball accumulation in your mash tun. The hydrator will wet your crushed grain as it drops into the mash tun, which will more effectively activate your enzymes for conversion. Using a wooden mash paddle can also help to prevent doughball accumulation in your grain.
Pro Tip: As your brewing system gets larger, a grist hydrator can make sure the mixing of water and grains is even during conveyance to the mash tun. In some cases, this will allow the operator to be freed up during mash in.
